Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse Implementation in Pharma

A dashboard built for one product launch usually works well while that launch is underway, but starts to strain once the portfolio grows and each product needs its own tracking. That's what happened at one multinational pharmaceutical company: a dashboard originally built for a single product held up well through launch, but once that product stabilized, the company wanted one view across its entire portfolio, old products and new alike.
BI Solusi expanded that dashboard by rebuilding its foundation on Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse, Microsoft's unified data platform that brings data lake and data warehouse into one place.
Data Needs Across the Portfolio
The wider scope brought a new problem: the platform had to unify data from products already mature in the market alongside ones yet to launch, then present it so leadership could compare performance at any point in the year, a sign the company needed business intelligence that actually covered the whole portfolio, not just product dashboards that happened to sit side by side.
Expanding the KPI Framework
Before building anything, BI Solusi and the company first sat down to agree on two performance measures that would apply the same way across every product:
Customer engagement effectiveness: reach, frequency, and quality of interaction with healthcare professionals and other customer segments across every campaign.
Field team sales results: visit activity, how many interactions converted to sales, and performance by territory and team.
Once those two definitions were agreed, there was nothing left to renegotiate every time a new product launched, and the portfolio could keep growing without breaking how performance got compared across products.
Foundation on Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse
BI Solusi rebuilt the data foundation from scratch on Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse. The old setup still ran Power Query for data prep and a standalone Power BI semantic model, fine for one launch with a clearly defined scope, but not for a whole portfolio: every new product would need manual data prep built from zero again, and every repeat was a chance for the numbers across products to drift out of sync.
Now, data from each product's systems and campaigns lands in the same Lakehouse, built on OneLake, Microsoft Fabric's single data storage layer, then moves through structured processing before reaching the semantic model that feeds the dashboard. One governed data source has replaced the many separate ones that used to run independently, so adding a new product now just means extending the existing pipeline instead of building one from zero. The project is also documented as a case study by Kitameraki, BI Solusi's parent company. Read the full version here.
How the Portfolio Dashboard Is Used
Every day, marketing and field teams use the dashboard for four things:
Reviewing engagement performance per product, by channel and campaign
Tracking field team sales results and comparing performance by territory
Comparing engagement and sales performance across the whole portfolio at once
Flagging products or teams that need attention without waiting on a launch review or the next scheduled report
Leadership uses it as a standing view of commercial performance across the business, not just when a launch is underway.
Benefits of the Fabric Lakehouse Architecture
Consistent data across products, without the risk of numbers drifting apart like before
One authoritative data source for every product
Non-technical teams can access cross-product data themselves through Power BI, without waiting on a custom report from the data team
The same basis for comparing marketing effort and sales results across teams and territories
